Interpretation Services

VCD provides scheduled interpretation services to assist Deaf and hard of hearing persons in overcoming communication barriers in a variety of situations. Our certified interpreters are fluent in both English and ASL and are able to convey complete conversations, signing what the hearing individual is saying and voicing what the Deaf individual is signing. We provide interpreters for a variety of situations, such as medical appointments, job interviews, and personal services. Our interpreters serve hundreds of individuals and businesses each year.

Interpreters also assist employers and employees in work-related matters. Employers are required by law to make reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. Employers—as well as public agencies, businesses, and other institutions—can request interpreter services on a fee-for-service basis.

VCD provides a Web-based interpretation request service, through which customers can make interpretation requests and verify online if their requests have been filled.

Emergency Interpretation
We understand that there are times when our clients need emergency interpretation, so we collaborate with other agencies to provide emergency interpreting services after hours and on weekends and holidays. We strive to have interpreters available for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Video Interpretation
Through videoconferencing technology, VCD interpreters are able to “join” meetings between hearing and Deaf persons and provide interpretation from a different location. This service is offered on a scheduled or as-needed basis for appointments less than one hour in duration or in areas that are outside a 30-mile radius from VCD.
